Our Story
Printemps is a french word meaning springtime. It is with the sentiment of that season that our work comes alive. We love allowing our creativity to take an organic approach. Through form, texture, and glaze, we seek to invoke the spirit of Mother Nature.
Nevan
Nevan got her start making pottery at Southern Illinois University in 1998. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in ceramics. As a student, Nevan was lucky to land a job in the Craft Shop at SIU's student center as a pottery studio assistant. As a second semester Ceramic student she was given the opportunity to teach wheel throwing and pottery making to non-ceramic students as well as members of the Carbondale community through the Craft Shop workshops.
After college, Nevan moved to Baltimore and began teaching a few classes at Baltimore Clayworks. This eventually led her to a job as manager of a production studio in Annapolis. After learning a lot about production, Nevan went back to teaching for Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. Now, Nevan works exclusively in her home studio where all of the Printemps Pottery is created.
Doug
Doug started making pottery in 2008 after his friend Nancy convinced him it would be a fun activity to join her in taking Nevan's class at Maryland Hall. (Spoiler: Doug and Nevan were already married at the time.) He took to it like a fish to water and soon all the other students were calling him teachers pet which, of course, he was.
He soon decided to focus on mugs, Doug's Mugs. He now throws almost all of the mugs at the Printemps Pottery Studio, as well as many of our other signature pieces.
